A Weight Loss Program Built Around Your Body

Dr. Murphy doesn't hand you a pamphlet and send you home. He leads a medically supervised program built around your health history, your habits, and your goals. You'll see a provider every visit.

Your Doctor

Dr. Brian Murphy, MD

Dr. Murphy has been helping patients lose weight and improve their health in Southwest Missouri for over 30 years. He leads a program focused on real medical oversight, practical adjustments, and long-term results. You'll see a provider every visit — not a chatbot, not a subscription app, and not a generic plan.

The Process

What to Expect

Step 1 | Your First Visit (30-45 min)

Your first appointment with Dr. Murphy runs 30 to 45 minutes. He'll review your full health history, current medications, diet, water intake, and exercise habits. Together, you'll set a realistic goal and decide which program — traditional appetite suppressants or GLP medications — is the right fit.

Step 2 | Get Your Medication

We carry medications in-house. There's no separate pharmacy trip after your appointment. You leave with everything you need, and Dr. Murphy will walk you through exactly how to use it.

Step 3 | Monthly Check-Ins

Follow-up appointments are shorter — typically 10 to 15 minutes. Dr. Murphy checks your blood pressure, reviews your progress, and adjusts your medications if something isn't working. These visits keep the program on track and give you consistent accountability.

Step 4 | Build the Long Game

Weight loss is the goal. Keeping it off is the work. Dr. Murphy spends part of every visit on the habits and education that make your results sustainable — not just the number on the scale.

Program Comparison

Two Programs. One Medical Team. Your Choice.

Both programs include monthly appointments, transparent pricing, and in-house medications. You'll see a provider every visit. The difference is the type of medication and how it's administered.

Traditional Weight Loss

Best for:

Patients who prefer oral medications, or who haven't tried a medically supervised program before.

What it includes:
  • Oral appetite suppressants (phentermine and related medications)
  • In-house prescriptions — no pharmacy trip
  • Monthly appointments with a provider
  • Blood pressure monitoring at every visit
  • Dietary education and lifestyle guidance
Pricing:
  • New patient: $100 + medication cost
  • Established patient: $75 + medication cost
  • Medications starting at $25 in-house

GLP Medication Program

Best for:

Patients exploring semaglutide and other GLP-1 medications, or those who haven't had adequate results with traditional suppressants.

What it includes:
  • Injectable GLP-1 receptor agonist medications (e.g., semaglutide)
  • In-person provider oversight at every visit
  • Monthly monitoring — blood pressure, vitals, side effect review
  • Dosing adjustments as needed
  • Education on what to expect and how to maintain results
Pricing:

Semaglutide starts at $140. Tirzepatide starts at $185. Prices increase as dosage increases, but we strive to keep patients on the lowest dose that remains effective in meeting their goals.

Not sure which program fits you? That's exactly what your first appointment is for. We'll review your health history and make a recommendation — no pressure, no obligation to decide before you come in.

Why It Matters

The Benefits Go Far Beyond Just the Scale

Most patients come in to lose weight. Most leave having improved something else they didn't expect.

Diabetes Risk

Maintaining a healthy body weight is one of the most impactful things you can do for blood sugar control. 80% of Type 2 diabetics can reverse their condition — not just manage it — by reaching and maintaining a normal body weight. Dr. Murphy monitors this throughout your program.

Blood Pressure

Losing weight is one of the most effective non-medication approaches to lowering blood pressure. Dr. Murphy checks your blood pressure at every appointment, and many patients see measurable improvement within the first few months.

Joint & Back Pain

For every pound lost, there is a measurable reduction in stress on your knees and lower back. Patients who come in for weight loss often notice their joint pain improving well before they reach their goal weight.

Acid Reflux

A significant number of patients find that reaching a healthier weight reduces or eliminates their reflux symptoms. Weight is one of the most common contributing factors to GERD — and one of the most actionable.

Hormonal Balance

Hormonal changes affect appetite, cravings, and energy in ways that make weight loss feel impossible without support. Our program includes personalized strategies to manage these changes — not just a prescription and a handshake.

Long-Term Health

This isn't about fitting into a pair of jeans. It's about reducing your risk of chronic disease, improving how you move through daily life, and building habits that compound over years. That's what Dr. Murphy has spent 30 years helping patients do.

Transparent Pricing

Every price is listed here. No "call for details." No hidden fees. This is what we charge and what you'll pay.

We don't file insurance. Here's why that's better for you.

No prior authorizations. No waiting on approval. No surprise bills three weeks later. You pay at the time of service and you're done. We're happy to provide a detailed receipt after every visit — you can submit it to your insurance company toward your deductible.

We accept cash and most major credit cards.

Some Common Questions

Do you accept insurance?

We don't file insurance claims. Payment is due at the time of service. We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, and FSA cards. After your visit, we provide a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company toward your deductible — your deductible applies here, even though we don't file directly.

What age range does the program serve?

We see patients from their 20s through their 70s. Teen patients (under 18) are welcome with parental or guardian consent. There's no strict upper age limit — eligibility is based on your health history and Dr. Murphy's assessment at your first visit.

Do you have weight restrictions for the program?

No strict minimums or maximums. Whether you're looking to lose 15 pounds or 100, we build the program around your goals and health profile. Dr. Murphy will assess your individual situation at your first appointment.

Will I gain the weight back when I stop taking medication?

The medication is a tool — not the whole program. Dr. Murphy invests a significant part of every visit in the dietary education and lifestyle habits that make your results sustainable after the medication ends. The goal is to give you the knowledge to maintain your weight independently.

How long does it take to reach my goal weight?

It depends on your starting point, metabolism, program, and consistency. Dr. Murphy will give you a realistic expectation at your first appointment — not a sales pitch. The average patient sees meaningful results within the first month, but the full journey varies.

Can I participate if I have high blood pressure?

Yes. Patients with high blood pressure are very welcome. We monitor blood pressure at every single visit, and many patients see their blood pressure improve as their weight decreases. If your blood pressure is a concern, bring a list of your current medications to your first appointment.

Can I participate if I have heart-related issues?

This is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Dr. Murphy will review your full cardiac history at your first appointment and determine whether our program is appropriate for you. Our team includes a doctor and nurse practitioners with experience managing patients with complex health profiles.

Can I take the medications if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. Appetite suppressants and GLP medications are not safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please consult your OB or primary care provider for guidance on weight management during that time.

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Walk-ins are welcome during our regular office hours. However, we recommend calling or texting ahead at (417) 226-1300 to confirm a provider is available. Scheduled appointments can be booked online 24/7 through our scheduling system.

How long are appointments?

Your first visit is a full consultation — approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Follow-up appointments are shorter, typically 10 to 15 minutes.

How often will I need to come in?

Our program is structured around monthly appointments. This gives you consistent accountability and enough time between visits to see real progress. Monthly check-ins also allow Dr. Murphy to adjust your plan as needed.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, Visa, MasterCard, and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) cards. Payment is due at the time of service.

What's the difference between your program and a GLP telehealth app?

The primary difference is in-person medical oversight. At SWMO, you'll see a provider who examines you, checks your vitals, reviews your health history in detail, and adjusts your plan based on what they observe — not what you type into an app. If something isn't working or a side effect develops, you see a provider at your next monthly visit, not a chatbot.

The First Step Is Easier Than You Think

Schedule online in under two minutes — you'll see real-time availability and can pick the time that works for you. No phone call required.
